The PFA’s Delegate Liaison Executives are all former players and so are experienced in the pressures and demands placed on members.
Club visits are an important part of the department’s role in ensuring good communication with PFA delegates and members.
PFA Executive and former Manchester United captain, Martin Buchan explains further: “The delegate is a link between their team-mates and the PFA, any vital information is passed on to them personally.”
Buchan continues: “It is probably the best part of our job, being out visiting clubs and mixing with the players.”
Under the standard playing contract, members have a contractual right to be represented by PFA Executives at disciplinary hearings, also at appeals to the Football League Disciplinary Commission and the Premier League Board.
PFA Executives are best placed to provide advice, guidance and if required provide representation regarding Football Association regulations and potential breaches.
Delegate Liaison Executives also represent the union on committees and boards covering all aspects of the professional game.
Importantly the PFA are also on the Professional Football Negotiating and Consultative Football Committee which ensures that changes to a players conditions cannot be made without the union’s agreement.
The PFA’s Management Committee is comprised of current players from each of the four divisions who represent members at board level.
